Queen Astraea Shared The Story Of How She Helped Steve Burns Land ‘Blue’s Clues’
Astraea couldn’t ignore all the requests for a “story time” so she later shared her story in a follow up video.
“I was a part of how Steve got hired for ‘Blue’s Clues,'” she began her video. She then apologized for not telling this story sooner, explaining that she was also greeting people at Comic-Con.
“Back in the early 90s, my mom worked for MTV and Nickelodeon, working specifically in the marketing department,” she continued. “Essentially how this all went down was that an email blast went out to the whole company.”
The email explained that they were getting ready to start a new show on Nick Jr. and were unsure who to cast as the host of the show, so they wanted to hold a focus group.

“Specifically, they were looking for kids between the ages of about 2 years old to about maybe four,” she continued. “And my mom was like, ‘Well, I have a kid! She’s two, about to turn three.'”

Astraea Was Part Of The Focus Group To Decide Who Should Host ‘Blue’s Clues’
Astraea went on to explain that there were only about three to five other kids in the focus group. The kids were shown some “VCR tapes” and one of them happened to be Burns’ audition tape.
“Steve has confirmed this story numerous times before at conventions as well as in other videos,” she said. “The last and final round was him and some guy that I believe Nickelodeon was trying to like push forward because this guy was apparently conventionally attractive.”
Astraea watched the audition with the other kids. Her mom told her that she “went feral for Steve” and really “loved Steve.”

“I was jumping, I was laughing, I loved everything about him and that audition,” she said. “When the other guy went on, I just wasn’t feeling it apparently. Apparently, I laughed a bit, but my reactions to the guy who was competing against Steve was just, it just didn’t compare.”
The focus group that she was part of was the last round of auditions, and the reason why Steve was hired to be Blue’s best pal.
“I feel so honored that by pure accident, coincidence, whatever was out there in the universe that put me in there, I feel honored to know that my enthusiasm and joy and laughter that Steve gave to me in that focus group was the snowball effect that gave him such an amazing career,” she said. “And made so many other kids learn and laugh and have someone to look up to.”
Viewers Of Astraea’s Story Time Video Are Thankful For Her Part In Their Childhoods
To conclude her video, Astraea said, “Steve was my childhood, the same way Steve was everyone’s childhood.”
She said meeting him at Comic-Con on Saturday was a full circle moment and now the two are friends.
Many “Blue’s Clues” fans dropped into the comment section to share their thoughts and to thank Astraea for the part she played in giving Steve to an entire generation.
“Thank you for my childhood. I couldn’t imagine my childhood without Steve,” one fan wrote. Another shared, “I came to America at 3. I didn’t speak the language. Blue’s Clues is what started teaching me and getting me excited for English! Thank you for being a part of that.”
One other viewer wrote, “You and Steve were always friends. The first friends that made all the rest of our friendships possible.”

Steve Burns Is Still An Important Part Of People’s Lives Even After ‘Blue’s Clues’
Just before attending this weekend’s Comic-Con, Burns took to social media to check in on his fans. His timing couldn’t have been better since many 90s Nickelodeon kids watched the docuseries, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” earlier in the week and had some unsettling emotions going on.
“Hey, I’m checking in. Tell me what’s going on,” Burns said as he stared into the camera. It appeared that he was actually listening to all the millions of people who viewed his video, which gave the feeling of being young again and watching “Blue’s Clues.”
“Alright. Well, it’s good to hear from you. And you look great, by the way,” he concluded his check-in.
With more than 6.1 million views and 40,000 comments since uploading the video three days ago, it’s safe to say Nickelodeon kids of the 90s needed Burns to show up on their FYP now more than ever.
“Thank you for being one of the GOOD parts of Nickelodeon, Steve,” one fan wrote. Another said, “Steve checking up on the now grown-up kids he left behind is another level of full circle moment.”
