We’re still in the heart of the 2023-24 NBA season and the trade deadline hasn’t even come and gone yet, but it’s never too early to look ahead to the 2024 NBA Draft.
In both the NBA and the NFL, draft season has become a year-round thing. As such, it’s well worth noting that the folks over at CBS Sports have released an updated prospect ranking featuring the Top 30 players heading into the event.
Several college stars find themselves in the Top 10, including Colorado freshman Cody Williams and Baylor freshman Ja’Kobe Walter, but it’s really the international players who are making names for themselves in the early going of this draft season.
In fact, CBS Sports ranks two players from France, small forward Zaccharie Risacher and center Alex Sarr as the No. 1 and No. 2 prospects in their rankings, respectively.
Neither player will be the next Victor Wembanyama, but both Risacher and Sarr bring a ton to the table as soon-to-be NBA rookies.
Risacher is an 18-year-old pro who currently plays for JL Bourg of France’s Pro A league, which is the top professional basketball league in France. He checks in at 6-foot-10 and is the definition of today’s NBA athlete. He can shoot from three at a high clip but is also athletic enough to be a tough guard in transition and while on the move.
Alexandre Sarr is a 7-foot-1 18-year-old big man from France who first jumped onto the scene in the early days of Overtime Elite. Right now, he’s playing for the Perth Wildcats of the Australian National Basketball League.
He’s averaging 9.1 points per game and four boards a game, but will really intrigue NBA scouts with his raw athleticism, 7-foot-4½ wingspan and 9-foot-2½ standing reach at only 18 years old.
Both players are certainly raw prospects and the possibility of a can’t-miss superstar like Wembanyama or LeBron James before him really doesn’t exist in this draft, but both Risacher and Sarr are well worth keeping an eye on as June 26 slowly but surely approaches.
