Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Trevor Megill was put on the seven-day injured list on Wednesday.
How he landed on the IL is one of the more bizarre stories of the young season.
According to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, Megill was in a Spectrum store during Monday’s off-day when the fall occurred.
It’s been an unfortunate, ironic start to the 2024 season for the Megill family, as the Brewers’ right-hander’s younger brother is also on the IL.
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was placed on the 15-day IL on Monday with a shoulder strain.
Tylor pitched just four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, three walks and four strikeouts in New York’s loss to Milwaukee on Sunday before exiting with the injury.
Trevor appeared in the Brewers’ first two contests of the season against the Mets last Friday and Saturday but hasn’t pitched since. The elder Megill has allowed no runs and just two hits and one walk with three strikeouts over his first two innings of work.
Milwaukee and New York opened the 2024 campaign against each other, and the next head-to-head meeting will close both teams’ regular seasons. The Brewers host the Mets from Sept. 27-29, perhaps giving a chance for two healthy Megills to take the diamond on the same day.
