David Horsey’s condemnation of progressives as shrill activists engaged in identity politics [“Democrats need to escape identity politics,” on the web March 4] does the same thing he criticizes.
As a progressive, I agree identity politics has gone too far. Mainstream Democrats pander to those stereotypes and then run to the right as an election draws near. I’ve been preaching ‘listen to the voters’ for years and enthusiastically supported Bernie Sanders’ focus on economic and health care issues that impact all those groups referenced. Had your centrist Democrats been paying attention in 2016 and nominated the candidate not engaged in identity politics, Trump would be an afterthought today.
So spare me your own stereotype of what you think a progressive represents, David. Or am I being too shrill?
