Re: “Abolish the Electoral College for the good of the nation” [Feb. 24, Opinion]:
Scott Newcombe made a solid case for abolishing the damaging and dangerous Electoral College. He closed by calling for a Constitutional amendment to replace it.
Fortunately, there is an alternative which doesn’t require two-thirds of Congress and three-quarters of the states. It’s called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. It’s a deal where as soon as enough states sign on to control a majority of electoral votes, they will all assign their electors based on the national popular vote and the popular vote winner will get elected.
Washington has signed on but if you have friends and relatives in states that haven’t, drop them a line.
