As the adage says, “Age is just a number.” Ben Franklin was 81 when he contributed significantly to drafting the American Constitution in Philadelphia in 1787. Benedict Arnold was 38 when he turned traitor against his nascent American country in the Revolutionary War. Who was the better leader?
We do not “hire” a president to run the 100-yard dash. We elect leadership founded on wisdom, experience and trust. Franklin Roosevelt was limited in his mobility from polio and whatever one thinks of his policies, he was unquestionably a capable leader in wartime. Abraham Lincoln also suffered from illness and bouts of depression, yet he kept the country together in a terrible war.
Age is truly a number, and an irrelevant one at that except in sports. Elect our leaders for wisdom, experience and trust in a mind that can do so wisely and effectively.
