“Finally, WA no longer has the nation’s most unfair tax system” [Jan. 20, Local News]:
Studies consistently show a strong link between economic equality and positive health outcomes. Danny Westneat’s column highlights the noteworthy recent changes to Washington’s tax system, marking an end to the state’s ignoble standing as having the most unfair tax structure in the country. This advance toward a more just economy has promising implications for prosperity and public health.
As Washington moves toward a fairer tax system, we can anticipate improved health indicators, reduced health disparities, and an overall enhancement in the well-being of our communities. However, while Washington is no longer in last place, we are still near the bottom, which means there’s much work left to do in reforming our upside-down tax code, so that Washington can be one of the fairest and healthiest states in the nation.
